Texas Caves by Blair Pittman,

Texas Caves by Blair Pittman,
Texas has about three thousand known, explored caves, ranging in size from small crawl ways to huge caverns. Texas Caves introduces this seldom-seen world, providing basic cave geology and biology, a description of the seven show caves that have been opened and developed for public visiting, and information on state speleological parks. The engaging text as well as one hundred full-color and black-and-white photographs reveal the glories of Texas caves, "wild" as well as commercial, showing different types of cave formations, the creatures that live in them, and the people who explore them. Caving experiences from cave photographer Blair Pittman, cave discoverer Orion Knox, cave developer Jack Burch, and commercial cave manager Jim Brummett bring to life places that house the hidden beauties that lie beneath the surface of Texas. Texas Speleological Association Chair Gill Ediger adds his thoughts on what it means to be a caver and how cavers, cave owners, and the general public are all involved in the conservation of cave resources. Texas Caves offers a deeper understanding of the underground world of caves and an invitation to those who wish to explore a new dimension of Texas' natural history.

Beyond Mammoth Cave: A Tale of Obesession in the World's Largest Cave by James D. Borden,
Beyond Mammoth Cave: A Tale of Obesession in the World's Largest Cave by James D. Borden,
In Beyond Mammoth Cave: A Tale of Obsession in the World's Longest Cave, James D. Borden and Roger W. Brucker provide gripping first-person accounts of the discoveries, including Roppel Cave, that made Kentucky's Mammoth Cave three times longer than any other cave in the world. Borden, a relative newcomer, and Brucker, a veteran explorer, bring a personal and sometimes conflicting view of their roles as adversaries in a race that lasted from 1972 through 1983 to find "big cave". They describe hazardous adventures, precarious climbs, and close calls from falling rocks. The perils are many and the trek arduous as they squirm through muddy tubes, wade in neck-deep cold water, and crawl over sharp rocks and gritty sand. Theirs is a tale of agonizing endurance spiced by spectacular discoveries. But the cave was not the sole obstacle. The explorations were complicated by political intrigue and the rivalry between the Kentucky-based Cave Research Foundation and the Central Kentucky Karst Coalition, each seeking to make discoveries and hide secrets. Extreme stress, of course, evoked extreme behavior, ranging from selfishness to sacrifice, from outrageous humor to the deadly serious response. Beyond Mammoth Cave includes maps by Patricia Kambesis that show the progression of cave discoveries in relation to the topography. Original line drawings by well-known illustrator Linda Heslop capture the dark mystery of the exploration. A sequel to The Longest Cave by Brucker and Richard A. Watson, this book is a comprehensive update of the speleological investigations in the Mammoth Cave region. Brucker's involvement provides continuity to the investigation.

Speleology - Speleology is the scientific study of caves and other karst features, their make-up, structure, physical properties, history, life forms, and the processes by which they form (speleogenesis) and change over time (speleomorphology).

Croatian Mountaineering Association - Croatian Mountaineering Association (Hrvatski planinarski savez) covers the complete range of related activities. Unlike majority of the international mountaineering associations, this Association comprises speleology, climbing, orienteering and mountain rescue.

Nikola Vitov Gučetić - Nikola Vitov Gučetić or Nicolò Vito di Gozze (1549-1610) was a statesman, philosopher, science writer and author of one of the first scientific dissertations regarding the speleology.
